Each issue of Child and Adolescent
Psychiatric Clinics of North America focuses on a single topic in child
and adolescent psychiatry and is presented under the direction of an
experienced guest editor. The current (January 05) volume, entitled
Emerging Interventions presents brain-based interventions using the
bioelectric domain, including EEG biofeedback or neurofeedback,
repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, and vagal nerve
stimulation. Each chapter presents a thorough review of the published
research and clinical literature in the area, integrated with case
discussions when indicated.
The January 2005 issue was edited
by Dr. Laurence Hirshberg, NeuroDevelopment Center Director, along with
two child psychiatry colleagues, Jean Frazier, MD and Sufen Chiu, Md,
PhD. The issue includes an article on quantitative EEG in
neuropsychiatry, articles on EEG biofeedback for ADHD, anxiety,
affective disorders, substance abuse, reading disability and traumatic
brain injury, and epilepsy, as well as a chapter presenting a program of
systematic fundamental validation research conducted by a top
neuroscience team in Great Britain.The volume also includes a chapter on
repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, and vagal nerve
stimulation, as well as an
overview
chapter written by the volume editors addressing the evidence base
for these emerging interventions and discussing their role in clinical
pratcice. |
